After Elderly Pedestrian Dies, Bus Driver Faces Charge

Last week, we wrote about an elderly woman who was in critical condition after being hit by a bus in Loveland, Colorado. Sadly, 70-year-old Norma Selzler passed away from her severe head injury two days after the accident. Now, driver Tracy McDowell, 37, is facing one charge of careless driving resulting in death.

Loveland police say that the bus accident was not intentional or malicious, and that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the accident, as far as they can tell.

“There’s no indication that he was texting or on the phone or anything like that,” Loveland Police Sgt. Jameson Gartner said in a Reporter-Herald article. “Basically, he wasn’t aware of his surroundings.

McDowell is currently on administrative leave. He has a court date in December. The school system is currently reviewing their transportation policy and considering changes to prevent this sort of accident in the future. McDowell had worked for the Thompson School District for the past seven years.
