Devin Durden, a former tight end for the Air Force football team, died October 4 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

The accident occurred in Buford, Georgia. Durden, 21, was heading south on Georgia Highway 20 to meet a friend for lunch. An 18-year-old driver heading the opposite direction turned left in front of Durden, and he was not able to stop in time. The other driver has since been charged with vehicular homicide and failure to yield.

Buford sustained multiple injuries in the accident, including a fractured femur and a severe spinal cord injury. He died in the hospital eight days later.

Durden’s family and friends set up a website for people to donate to his estate. Visit http://friendsofthedurdens.org/ to learn more.

We are saddened to hear about this young athlete who perished early in life. We urge motorists to exercise caution when turning left in front of a motorcycle; it can be difficult to gauge a motorcycle’s speed and distance. Instead, wait for it to pass before completing your turn.
