“The ride was absolutely beautiful,” said a participant in the seventh annual Veterans Recognition Ride. The motorcycle procession included roughly 300 participants riding a 40-mile loop through El Paso County, Colorado to honor our nation’s servicemen and women.
“It’s huge. It’s once a year,” said one veteran participant.
The Veterans Recognition Ride is also a major fundraiser for veterans and their families. For example, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides financial support to the families of those killed in action.
“Tears me up as I think about it because it does fill our hearts that people still think about us and also those who are currently serving and have served,” said the wife of one fallen soldier.
Many veterans are physically disabled due to injuries sustained while serving our county. Thankfully, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation was there to help injured veterans and civilians mount and dismount from their bikes safely.
In total, participants raised over $6,000 for veterans and their families. This is a fine example of the community building power of motorcyclists.
“We all ride motorcycles, very many of us and it’s that brotherhood of riding that brings us all together,” said the organizer of the event. “In this way, we can come out and show our support for our fallen brothers and sisters, for those who have given so much for our country.”
