Are Super Sport Bikes Dangerous?

There is nothing inherently dangerous about super sport bikes. In fact, rider experience has much more to do with motorcycle safety than type of bike. However, super sport bikes are so often implicated in motorcycle accidents due to the age of most super sport bike riders. There is a growing trend of younger and younger motorcyclists opting for a super sport bike as soon as they get their “M” stamped on their licenses. A recent motorcycle accident in Fort Collins, Colorado illustrates how safety correlates with experience.

According to the Coloradoan, two men died in a head-on collision on Larrimer County Road 38. A 28 year old riding a Ducati swerved into oncoming traffic where he struck a 55 year old riding a Suzuki. According to investigators, alcohol was likely not a contributing factor to the accident; however, excessive speed by the younger motorcyclist likely caused the accident. Both Ducati and Suzuki motorcycles are incredibly fast but can still be ridden safely with enough experience. As such, it is not surprising that the younger motorcyclist was responsible for the crash.
