The Ford F-150 is the bestselling pickup truck in America. However, this popular vehicle also has its share of problems. Now, vehicle owners claim there’s a new and dangerous defect in the pickup’s braking system. Will Ford do anything to make sure this new safety concern is addressed?
Should Ford Recall F-150 Pickup Trucks?
A driver in Aurora was travelling at 75 mph when their F-150 started having problems. Heavy traffic was coming up fast, but the brake pedal was not slowing the vehicle. In a desperate attempt to avoid a collision, the driver steered the truck into the grassy median and was able to slow to a stop. However, this story could have easily ended in tragedy.
On the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, 130 complaints similar to this Aurora driver’s story can be read. Yet, the Ford Motor Company has done little to address the issue. F-150 owners that take their vehicles into dealerships are often faced by mechanics who are unsure of the issue. Sometimes, repairing the problems they do find can cost up to $1,800.
A recall for 2013 and 2014 F-150’s with similar brake problems was previously issued by Ford. However, the company has yet to expand that recall to the 2015 and 2016 models at the center of these latest complaints. When news organizations ask if Ford plans to expand the recall, the company replies with a letter saying that it is cooperating with NHTSA. The letter further claims that a recall will be issued if the data indicates a recall is needed.
Some sources are reporting that NHTSA has received over 200 complaints about failing F-150 brakes. This leaves many critics wondering, how many reports it will take to convince Ford to issue a recall? Another avenue that could convince the automaker to issue a recall is if victims begin filing lawsuits against the company.
Victims of an accident involving a 2015 or 2016 model F-150 need to contact an attorney right away. They could potentially receive compensation for their damages and injuries and help other drivers by spurring a recall that addresses this dangerous issue.
