Community Shows Support for Drunk Driving Victims

Denver mom April Armijo was driving home with her 3-year-old son and a car full of Christmas presents. She slowed down when the car in front of her began having problems. A suspected drunk driver in a Hummer crashed into the back of her car near 6th and Sheridan. The crash injured her son and destroyed all the Christmas presents.

Her son Jordan was rushed to hospital to treat a broken jaw. As word spread about the accident that injured a child and ruined presents on the Saturday before Christmas, community members donated money and toys to the family. Armijo said that they have received flowers, cards and toys from complete strangers who wanted them to have a good Christmas.

“I just want to say thanks to all the families that came out here and gave my kids presents for Christmas. It made them so happy, thank you very much,” Armijo told FOX31.

Police charged the driver with child abuse, vehicular homicide and drunk driving.

We are glad to hear that the Armijos had some presents to open this holiday season despite another driver’s destructive mistakes.
