Boulder Pro Cyclist Killed While Training

On October 3, Amy Dombroski, a 26-year-old professional cyclist from Boulder, Colorado, was killed while on a training ride, according to Cycling News. Dombroski raced cyclo-cross for the Belgian Young Telenet-Fidea squad. The accident occurred while she was in Belgium.

“Amy was doing a workout behind a scooter when around 4:00 pm, a collision occurred with a truck in Sint-Katelijne-Waver,” read a statement released by the Belgian Young Telenet-Fidea organization. “The driver of the motorcycle miraculously escaped the accident but for Amy the consequences of the impact were so great that she succumbed.”

Dombroski grew up in Jericho, Vermont. She moved to Boulder, Colorado after high school to pursue a professional cycling career. This season would have been her second season as a part of the Young Telenet-Fidea team and third year living and training in Belgium during the cyclo-cross season. Dombroski had won three U23 national cyclo-cross championships as well as US U23 national titles on the road and for cross country mountain biking.

Over the weekend of October 13, the Boulder cycling community paid tribute to Amy during the annual UCI Colorado Cross Classic and Boulder Cup by staging a lap in her honor prior to the elite races. In addition, the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado will now call its pre-junior program the “Amy Dombroski Pre-J Program,” and the Amy D. Foundation was created in her name by family and friends to assist young cyclists.

Any cyclist, no matter his or her skill level, can be the victim of a motorist’s mistake. Cyclists can ride the right way, but they cannot control the actions of others on the road. Yet as little control as they can have in causing an accident, cyclists often bear the brunt of the damage and suffering that results.

Our firm has been in the corner of cyclists for years. We have successfully helped the victims of bicycle accidents hold those at fault accountable and recover the compensation they need to move on with their lives.
