Car Electronics Attempting to Make Roads Safer

A new device called the Mobileye 560 is allowing drivers to have the safety features of newer cars fitted onto any car. A company called Mobileye makes vehicle safety systems that major car manufacturers use in their newer models, such as proximity detectors, which alert drivers to hazards on the road. Now they have begun making aftermarket versions of these systems, which are being sold out of specialty stores.

The Mobileye 560 uses a camera mounted just behind the rearview mirror to scan the road ahead and is activated when the car is started. A small display screen visibly and audibly alerts the driver to pedestrians in the roadway, bikes, collisions and lane departures. It also scans speed limit signs and alerts drivers when they have exceeded the speed limit. If you have a smartphone, you can opt to use that as your display instead of using the Mobileye 560 display. Even though the system is automatic once started, it can easily be turned off.

Safety devices like these will hopefully make our roads safer, however, even with all the safety equipment and precautions taken to avoid car accidents, they can still happen.
