About 150 riders in a motorcycle group called the Rough Riders were on a memorial ride in honor of a friend – Ernest “Phantom” Jones – who died in a motorcycle accident a week earlier. They were riding on I-95 in Florida on Saturday, November 10 when a series of accidents caused nine bikers to crash. Six of them were taken to nearby hospitals.
Three motorcycles caused an accident that initiated the domino effect. A Hyundai slowed to avoid that accident, causing the motorcycle behind the Hyundai to crash into the car’s rear, and another bike crashed into that motorcycle.
Then, two tractor-trailers stopped to avoid hitting those bikes, and a motorcycle crashed into one of the trucks. Another lost control and flew from his bike.
Two more motorcycles crashed behind the stopped trucks. Troopers are still looking into what caused that accident.
Motorcycle rides are a powerful symbol of the tight bonds that exist in the motorcycle community. Unfortunately, it also creates risks when motorcyclists ride in tight formations. Riders should keep safe distances between each other, and all other motorists should keep their eyes on the road to avoid motorcycle accidents. If you lost a loved one in a motorcycle, car or truck accident, we can help you seek justice against negligent drivers. Call (866) 377-3800 today to set up a free case review.
