As Colorado hunters go about their business retrieving and hauling game into vehicles, motorcyclists are facing an unexpected new roadside hazard. Due to the size of big game, such as elk, hunters are using trucks to carry the carcasses out of the forest. This poses a serious risk to motorcyclists who can trip over the cables and chains attached to the animal.
According to 9 News Colorado, a 34-year-old motorcyclist was driving on Colorado 92 in Montrose County when he collided with a cable stretched between an elk and a truck. The cable was stretched taut across the road at the same height as the motorcyclist’s chest, fatally knocking him off of his motorcycle.
The two hunters involved did not handle the situation well. They allegedly attempted to bribe a teenager who witnessed the accident with alcohol and marijuana if he kept the incident secret and did not call 911. However, a motorist soon came by and contacted authorities.
The two hunters are facing a host of charges, including, vehicular homicide, criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter, accessory to a crime and reckless endangerment, failing to render aid after a fatal accident and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Motorcycle accidents (far more mundane than this one) can still yield tragic consequences, such as traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries. It is important to consider the vulnerability of the motorcyclist, who lacks the protective shielding of a car. If you have suffered serious injury in a motorcycle accident, do not immediately settle with the liable party’s insurance provider without first consulting with an experienced attorney.
Brain and spinal cord injuries require costly and time-consuming physical therapy, and, by consulting with an injury attorney, you can secure the compensation necessary for a healthy and inexpensive recovery.
