A Brighton police officer recently comforted a 2-year-old girl who had survived a devastating rollover accident. After being involved in a rollover accident with her mother, three siblings and father, one of the police officers who had arrived on the scene picked up the 2-year-old and began to sing the famous lullaby “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”.
Three of the girl’s siblings and her mother were injured during the accident. Her father died after being thrown from the vehicle.
The police officer, the father of a 2-year-old daughter himself, knew exactly what he needed to do to help comfort a young girl who had just survived an incredibly traumatic experience. Photographs taken at the scene of the accident show the police officer gently holding the young girl and pointing towards the sky as he sang.
How Can Rollover Accidents Be Avoided?
Rollover accidents can happen for numerous reasons, such as speeding, avoiding obstacles in the road, or poor weather conditions. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, almost 75 percent of rollover accidents happen in rural areas where the speed limit is 55 mph or higher.
A common cause of rollover accidents is navigating a turn while driving at high speeds. Taller and narrower vehicles are more likely to be involved in rollover accidents due to having a higher center of gravity.
Motorists can reduce the risk of being involved in rollover accidents by avoiding speeding, driving cautiously during poor weather, slowing down during turns and keeping tires balanced and pressurized.
