Decorated Iraq Veteran Dies in Motorcycle Crash

Decorated Iraq veteran, Sergeant Bryan Dewayne Beard, 34, died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Killeen on June 12, 2011.

Sergeant Beard, originally of Constantinople, Kansas entered active service in May 1997 and served three tours in support of Operation Iraqui Freedom from January to July 2003, October 2006 to January 2008 and January to December 2009. He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division since February 2006.

Sergeant Beard earned multiple award and decorations including four Army Good Conduct Medals, five Army Achievement Medals and the Presidential Unit Citation Award. Sergeant Beard also earned the Iraqi Campaign Medal with three combat service stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and six Overseas Service Ribbons in addition to the Korean Defense Service medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, two Army Commendation Medals and the Army Service Ribbon.

Sergeant Beard was stationed at Fort Hood at the time of the accident.
