Distracted Driver Causes Glenwood Springs Rollover Accident

A distracted driver, according to the Post Independent, caused a November 11 rollover accident in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

“The accident occurred at 11:50 a.m., and caused no serious injuries,” Colorado State Patrol Trooper Jeremy Tice told the Post Independent.

The accident happened on Highway 82 and only involved a single vehicle, a 2000 Ford Focus hatchback, with a single occupant, a 39-year-old man. The driver lives part-time in Grand Junction, Colorado and part-time in Carbondale, Colorado and was traveling from Carbondale to Grand Junction at the time of the accident.

As the man was driving his Focus along Highway 82, he became distracted when something fell from his lap onto the floor of his car. In the course of trying to retrieve what fell, he lost control of the car. After the driver lost control of the car, it proceeded to go off the side of the highway, roll into a ditch, go airborne, plunge back to the ground nose-first and roll again, according to reports.

After the car accident, the driver was taken to Valley View Hospital, where doctors treated the minor injuries he suffered in the crash. The man told authorities that he was not sure what fell from his lap. He was given a ticket for careless driving.
