DA Jim Wilson Dies in a Motorcycle Crash on 1-70

District Attorney Jim Wilson was driving his Harley Davidson westbound on I-70 at approximately 7:55 a.m. on May 22, 2010 when he lost control of his motorcycle for unknown reasons while entering a right-hand turn. Wilson went over a guardrail and his body rolled down an embankment before coming to a rest near the eastbound lane of I-70.

Trooper Matt Petty, the Colorado State Patrol officer investigating the crash scene, reported that Wilson was wearing a helmet and there were no skid marks. The Jefferson County coroner reported that that a gust of wind blew Wilson into the I-70 guardrail, causing the fatal crash. Wilson sustained multiple internal injuries in the accident.

Jim Wilson was a two-term elected Republican and represented Colorado’s 22nd Judicial District which encompasses Montezuma and Doloris counties. Wilson leaves behind his wife Carol and three sons.
