Driver Arrested After Wreck with Colorado Springs Police Car

According to Examiner.com, on October 16, a driver was arrested after crashing into a Colorado Springs police cruiser. The accident happened at night at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and Meadowland Boulevard.

A marked police car was traveling south on North Academy Boulevard shortly before the accident. At the same time, another vehicle was heading northbound on North Academy. As the two vehicles crossed paths at the Meadowland Boulevard intersection, the northbound vehicle attempted a left turn, resulting in a collision with the police cruiser.

The vehicles were not heavily damaged in the wreck and no injuries were reported. The Colorado Springs Police Department has asserted that the police car had the right of way, because both drivers had green lights prior to the crash.

However, the 29-year-old driver of the other vehicle was not arrested because he was allegedly at fault for the accident, but because he was driving on a revoked license due to a previous DUI. After his arrest, the 29-year-old’s car was impounded. While the car was impounded, methamphetamine packaged for distribution, marijuana and other items were found, which added drug charges to the man’s traffic citations.
