A 23-year-old man recently drove into two Colorado State Patrol (CSP) cars on the evening of Saturday, January 11. The perpetrator was driving his Chevrolet pickup truck on the ramp connecting Interstates 25 and 76 when he collided with a CSP Crown Victoria parked along the ramp. The force of impact was sufficient to send the Crown Victoria crashing into a CSP Dodge Charger. At the time of the accident, the CSP vehicles were blocking the exit ramp with their emergency lights on.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the crash. The 23-year-old driver has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs. A spokeswoman for the CSP said they “believe marijuana” was a contributing factor to the accident. Only two weeks prior, a motorist on Interstate 70 east of Aurora struck two CSP vehicles. The CSP spokeswoman continued, “[i]t is unacceptable that troopers and their vehicles continue to be hit on our roadways. This time we were fortunate, but many officers across the nation are not so lucky.”
