Fiery Crash Leaves One Woman Dead

A single-car crash in De Beque, Colorado has left one woman dead and two other occupants with serious injuries.

The auto accident happened around 2:40 a.m., when a Chevy Impala occupied by a 21-year-old man, a 26-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman veered across the median on eastbound I-70 and hit a rock structure. The vehicle then rolled backwards and caught fire.

Motorists driving by the scene stopped to help extract the vehicle’s occupants as flames consumed the Impala. The female passenger died at the scene of the accident from injuries sustained in the crash. Emergency crews rushed the other two occupants to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities are still investigating the accident, but have stated that they believe alcohol and excessive speed were factors.

A tragic accident like this seems all the more terrible if alcohol was involved. Far too many needless deaths are the result of drinking and driving. So many people think it will not happen to them, only to find out too late that it can.
