Fort Carson Man Killed in Rollover Crash

An unidentified Fort Carson man, 25, is dead after a rollover crash on Monarch Pass, Sunday, June 12, 2011. Two other passengers in the car sustained minor injuries.

The accident occurred at 2:35 a.m. on U.S. 50, 23 miles west of Salida. Cody Katcher, 19, of Fort Carson was driving a 2010 Toyota Camry when he failed to negotiate a curve to the left and the car went off the right side of the road. Katcher overcorrected, the car collided with trees and rolled one and a half times before stopping on its roof.

Karcher and the front seat passenger, Nicholas Williams, 22, of Fort Carson, were wearing seatbelts. Both men were taken to Gunnison Valley Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The victim was riding in the back seat and was also wearing a seatbelt, but died at the scene. Police are investigating the cause of the accident. They are withholding the dead man’s identity until they can contact out of town relatives.
