Fort Collins Scooter Accident Leaves Man in Critical Condition

The Coloradoan is reporting that a Fort Collins man is in critical condition after he was hit by a SUV while riding his Vespa scooter. The accident occurred on the evening of September 29, at the intersection of Del Clair Road and Tulane Drive in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The 30-year-old scooter rider was heading north on Tulane Drive, as he reached the intersection. At the same time, a Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by a 20-year-old was heading west on Del Clair Road as he reached the intersection. Those traveling northbound on Tulane Drive do not have a stop sign at the Del Clair Road intersection, but those traveling westbound on Del Clair Road do have a stop sign at the intersection. However, as the scooter rider traveled through the intersection, the Jeep proceeded from the stop sign and crashed into the side of the scooter.

The accident was reported to Fort Collins Police Services at approximately 5 p.m. The scooter rider suffered serious injuries in the wreck and had to be taken to Medical Center of the Rockies for treatment. The driver of the Jeep did not suffer any injuries. Police closed down the intersection while they investigated the scene of the crash. Charges were pending, as the investigation was still ongoing at the time of this report.
