A 12-year-old boy was killed in a three-vehicle accident in Fountain, Colorado on September 23, according to a report by NBC 5 in Colorado Springs. The accident happened at the intersection of Plaza Boulevard and CO 85/87. The 12-year-old was the lone fatality of the wreck, but several others were injured, including a five-week-old girl, who was in critical but stable condition at the time of this report.
A 2005 Dodge Ram appears to have caused the accident. Leading up to the crash, the Dodge Ram was traveling south on Colorado 85/87 in the left lane. Also in the left lane of Colorado 85/87 were a 2004 Chevrolet Impala and a 2008 Toyota Tundra, both of which were stopped at a red light at the Plaza Boulevard intersection. Upon reaching the intersection, the Dodge Ram struck the rear of the Impala. The force of that impact forced the Impala to strike the rear of the Tundra.
The 45-year-old driver of the Ram and the 35-year-old driver of the Tundra both sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The 24-year-old driver and 35-year-old passenger of the Impala also both sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. There were four minor children riding in the backseat of the Impala, a five-week-old girl, two-year-old boy, 12-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl. They all sustained injuries, but only the five-week-old and 12-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries.
