Taking a trip on a motorcycle can be incredibly liberating. With thoughts of the open road in front of you, it is important to pause for a moment and make certain you pack what you need for your trip.
A packing list will naturally vary according to where you are going, how long you will be gone, and where are you are planning to stay when you sleep. That being said, there are three categories you can use to break up your list and keep you focused:
- Clothes – Pack for the variations in weather you expect to encounter. You can fit more clothing if you fold your stuff neatly and place it in large Zip Lock bags. Close the zipper almost completely, and then sit on the bag, squeezing out the air.
- Necessities – Maps/GPS, food and water, a first aid kit, a flat kit, flash light
- Toiletries – Use another Zip Lock bag here. Aspirin, deodorant, Neosporin, shampoo and other toiletries. If anything leaks, it will stay in the bag.
You know best what you are likely to need on your trip. People tend to over pack for trips, and it might take you a few experiences before you pare down what you really “need”. Also, in case you are unfortunate enough to get in a motorcycle accident, always bring your insurance card.
