According to the Lowell Sun, 35 cars collided in an immense pileup on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Thursday, December 26. Many of the drivers were returning from holiday celebrations when the massive pileup completely blocked all traffic for approximately seven hours. The pileup backed up traffic for four miles in Berks County to the west of Philadelphia.
Thankfully no one died in the accident, but 10 people were injured. Emergency crews arrived and shuttled the injured off to a nearby hospital. Most of the car damage was minor; however, approximately five semi-trailers were involved, one of which contained flammable materials. Some cars were wedged between semi-trailers and completely destroyed.
