Kansas Man Dies in Vernon County Crash

Irvil West, 73, of Marysville, KS, is dead after a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on June 16, 2011. The accident occurred on U.S. 71 three miles north of Sheldon, in Vernon County at 1:40 p.m. West was driving south when he went off the east side of the road, crossed the median and overturned.

Emergency personnel transported West to Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar. He was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m.

It is not clear if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

West is survived by three sons, Mike West of Wichita, KS, Gary West of Marysville, KS and Bill West of Gunnison, CO; three grandchildren, Eric and Wade West, and Megan Willoughby; four grat-grandchildren, Rhaygen, Bryson and Payton Willoughby, and Cooper West.

He received a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday June 20, 2011 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church with Father Jim Shaughnessy and Father Gary Pennings officiating.
