Metier Law Firm is proud to announce our very own Lacy Gangestad has won the Pastels on 5th People’s Choice award for her elegant pastel drawing of a sea turtle. We were honored to sponsor Lacy, who used her talent and time to help fundraise for victims of violence. Lacy is Metier Law Firm’s Medical Records Administrator.
Pastels on 5th has been held since 2011 as a fundraising benefit for Alternatives to Violence, an organization dedicated to ending domestic violence, sexual assault and other violent crimes Pastels is an event where artists show off their works on 5th Street, adjacent to the Loveland Museum Gallery. This event does not host typical artwork, but instead a form of street art where chalk drawings are displayed on the sidewalk along 5th Street. Members attending the event vote on the best works of art in the People’s Choice Awards.
In addition to displaying art, the event also hosts a children’s art area, music, food and a marketplace. During the first year the event was hosted in 2011, Pastels on 5th raised $10,000 for Alternatives to Violence. The second year saw more than $25,000 raised, and included 85 artists and sponsors.
What Is Alternatives to Violence?
Alternatives to Violence helps victims in several ways, such as offering 24-hour victim advocates, court advocates, individual and group therapy, housing referrals, and community education programs. Counseling and therapy can be crucial after suffering acts of violence. Alternatives to Violence offers victims places to go, a shoulder to cry on and legal help during the recovery process.
