A native of Illinois, Jerry Bettenhausen worked in the steel industry for 19 years before deciding to change careers. In 1993, Jerry received his Associate of Applied Sciences degree from South Suburban College and started working as an insurance adjuster/investigator. Jerry and his family moved to Colorado in 1996 where he began working as a paralegal for a prominent personal injury law firm. Jerry joined Metier Law Firm in 2011. In his spare time, Jerry enjoys hiking, skiing and motorsports.
Jessica grew up in Colorado and graduated with a B.A. in Social Work from Colorado State University. After spending five years in Dallas, Texas, she moved back to Colorado and joined the Metier Law Firm in 2012. She is excited to be a part of the great Fort Collins community again. In her free time, Jessica enjoys doing anything adventurous, especially if it involves family, friends, good food and Broncos football.
Law Tigers Marketing Director
A native of California, Michael Gill comes to us with extensive experience in marketing and event planning. Michael attended Boise State University, where he majored in Communications and worked as a coach, followed by another coaching position at the University of Nevada, Reno. He then spent 2 years in Colorado before spending some time working in the eastern U.S. working in marketing, sales and event planning. Michael returned to Colorado in 2010 and joined the Metier Law Firm team in 2012 as the Law Tigers Marketing Director. In his spare time Michael enjoys motorsports, golf, football, basketball, snowboarding, hiking and concerts.
Originally from Rochester, NY, Paula grew up in Loveland and moved to Boulder to attend the University of Colorado. Graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Production Management, she briefly worked for a television production company in Southern California before returning to Boulder. After ten years working in customer relations, public relations and promotions, Paula attended Denver Paralegal Institute. She graduated 1997 and has worked in law ever since, focusing on personal injury since 2003. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and photography, and is a big sports fan.
Stefanie brings many years of front office and customer service skills from her previous position as an office manager and assistant grant writer with a local domestic violence advocacy center. Her experience with community outreach programs along with her Associates in Paralegal studies allows her to deliver unsurpassed support to both coworkers and clients. In her off time Stefanie has a passion and flair for artistic creativity; she paints regularly and enjoys other crafts. She volunteers her time working with local organizations that offer services to at risk-children and survivors of domestic violence. Stefanie has two adult children who light up her life and with whom she enjoys spending her free time.
Law Tigers Marketing Specialist
Laura is a Colorado “Native” and has over 15 years of experience in the real estate industry. She has managed several successful teams and coordinated listings to sales contracts from acceptance to successful closing. Laura has designed marketing materials, newspaper and magazine print, maintained websites, managed social media sites for accuracy, scheduled photography and virtual tours and managed contract dates and all communications with lenders, title companies, clients, inspectors, appraisers, to ensure a smooth and rewarding transaction. Laura also comes from a motorcycle racing family, from her husband Chuck who was a pro motocross rider in the 1970’s and in 1994 won the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in the 250 pro class. Chuck has put up his boots to help their son, Johnny Hopper, a national pro motocross rider, #875 compete. Johnny has competed in many Amateur Nationals (Loretta Lynn Amateur National, Ponca City Grand National, and Branson MX National) , will compete nationally at Thunder Valley MX National in Lakewood, and is currently for 2014 ranked first in the Open Pro and 450 Pro classes in the SRAC (Sports Rider Association of Colorado). When Laura is not working you will find her trackside, rooting her son on. Braaaapop!
Raised in Aurora, a job in hotel management took Kris to the South, with stops in Kentucky, Florida and Georgia. It was in Georgia that Kris went to work as a legal assistant at one of Atlanta’s premier personal injury firms. He has been assisting accident victims for 13 years. Kris is an active member of his Church. He loves spending as much time as possible with his nieces and nephew. He likes to run, read, and is an avid sports fan.
Executive Assistant to Tom Metier
Rhonda Kohl has been the executive assistant to Tom Metier since 2008, and she manages the day-to-day details of his schedule. She was born, raised and educated in Council Bluffs, Iowa and honed her skills as an executive assistant while working for well known Bank Presidents and CEOs in Omaha, Nebraska for 26 years. When Rhonda is not working at the firm, she enjoys traveling back to her hometown to visit her son and spending time with her husband and Labrador retriever. She also enjoys trying new restaurants and cooking.
Shelli was born in South Dakota but later moved to Fort Collins with her parents and five siblings. After graduating from Rocky Mountain High School, she attended Front Range Community College then entered the work force. Just before joining the firm in 2013, she worked as a medical assistant for a local spine surgeon. Shelli’s kind and fun loving personality is most evident when spending time with her 10 nieces and nephews. In her spare time, Shelli enjoys hiking, attending concerts, spending time with family and camping.
Kim grew up in LaSalle, CO and went to Valley High School. After raising her son, Trevor, and daughter, Amanda, she worked in banking and in a medical office, and as an administrative assistant. Kim started working at Metier Law Firm in March 2013 and is excited to be part of the Law Tigers team. When Kim is not working, she and her husband, Rick, enjoy camping, fishing, 4-wheeling, motorcycle riding, going out to dinner and spending time with their children. They have two dogs that love hiking with them on camping trips and keep them entertained.
Julie Melcher graduated from Illinois State University in 2002. She worked for the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office for three years as a legal secretary before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado in 2005. Shortly thereafter, Julie joined Metier Law Firm as a legal assistant. Julie is a member of CTLA. In her free time, Julie enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors.
Janet Ritz was raised in Dallas, Texas and received her Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988. Thereafter, she attended St. Mary’s School of Law where she received her Juris Doctor in 1991 and went on to practice personal injury law in the Dallas and Houston areas. In 1999, Janet’s family moved to Fort Collins to be closer to her husband’s family. She joined the Metier Law Firm as the practice manager in 2009. In her spare time, Janet enjoys hiking, camping, boating and spending time with her husband of 22 years and their three children.
Medical Records Administrator
Karen Ross graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins and went on to attend Front Range Community College. She has worked in office administration for over 15 years and joined Metier Law firm in 2010. Karen runs the medical retrieval department and enjoys meeting with potential new clients. She has three grown children and one young granddaughter. In her spare time, Karen enjoys bike riding, boating and summer concerts.
Jacqui was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado. She graduated from Colorado State University, where she double majored in Political Science and Sociology. She is fluent in both English and Spanish and is a member of CTLA. As a paralegal, Jacqui has worked in areas of Social Security Disability, Worker’s Compensation, and Personal Injury. When Jacqui is not working, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and close friends.
Janie was born and raised in Windsor, Colorado. After graduating from Regis University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business she worked in medical billing /coding for about 15 years. While working at Poudre Valley Hospital as a Legal Accounts Representative, Janie found her passion for legal work and pursued a position as a paralegal. For the last 9 years Janie has worked exclusively as a personal injury paralegal. When she is not working, Janie enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, dancing and watching classic movies (English and Spanish), especially all the Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers.
Bonnie was raised in Southern California and received her Bachelor of Business degree from California Polytechnic University. Skilled in Marketing, she invented and launched to the world market an eco-friendly product named Wrap-N-Mat-aimed to reduce waste. Venturing into a new arena, Bonnie joined Metier Law in 2014. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors, traveling, and being with her four children.
Jenny Walker graduated from Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, Colorado. She later graduated from the University of Maine at Machias and then earned a paralegal certificate. She began her career as a paralegal in Key West Florida and later moved back to her home state of Colorado where she continued to work in the legal field. Jenny joined Metier Law Firm in 2003, and she is a member of CTLA. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, and exercising.
Senior Case Manager
Lou Weinhold graduated from Killian Sr. High School in Miami, FL in 1974. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Army as a helicopter crew chief overseeing operations on aero-medical evacuations in Germany. After the military, he attended the University of Miami (FL). Then for the next eight years, he managed several independent insurance agencies. In 1996, he moved to Highlands Ranch, CO and began his claims career at Progressive Insurance company. In 2010, Lou began his career as the Senior Case Manager for Law Tigers. He has a daughter attending John Marshall Law School in Chicago and his son is attending Aims Community College. In his spare time, Lou enjoys the outdoors, especially going hunting and camping.
Born and raised in Vermont, Lauri relocated to Fort Collins with her husband in June 2017. After receipt of her Bachelor’s degree from Susquehanna University in 1994 and her Associate’s degree in Paralegal studies in 1998, she completed the Vermont Law Office Clerkship and became a Vermont licensed attorney in 2004. Lauri practiced law with a private firm until 2010 when she started her own practice focusing on litigation and personal injury. Excited to return to her roots as a litigation paralegal, Lauri joined the Metier Law Firm in October 2017. In her free time, Lauri likes to ride motorcycle, hike with her dog, follow live music and enjoy the stunning Colorado outdoors.

Janine was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1988 she received her doctorate in chiropractic from Sherman Chiropractic College in Spartanburg, South Carolina; thereafter, she moved to Michigan and opened a private chiropractic practice which she operated for over 20 years. In 2017, Janine and her husband moved to Fort Collins to be closer to their son. In her spare time Janine enjoys reading, walking, hiking and spending time with her family.
Vanessa Speir grew up in Princeton New Jersey then moved to Washington State where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in Sociology from University of Washington in 1988. Vanessa pursued a career in wholesale nursery work until starting her family. After raising their two children in Seattle, she reentered the work force in bookkeeping and office management. In 2005, her family moved to Fort Collins, CO and the next year she joined the Metier Law Firm as an office administrator and bookkeeper. In her free time, Vanessa enjoys reading, gardening, cooking and being with her friends and family.
