Do you hear that? It’s the sound of your Harley-Davidson misfiring! Why is it doing that? What’s the problem? How much will it cost to fix it? These are usually the questions you ask yourself before you take your bike to a mechanic and get ready to empty your wallet, but what if you didn’t have to go to the shop to get all those answers? What if your iPhone could tell you everything you needed to know about what’s wrong with your Harley?
Could I Fix My Harley-Davidson with Just My iPhone?
Technology is everywhere. It’s in our phones, it’s in our cars, and it’s in our motorcycles, but it’s not that important to Harley-Davidson. The company is known for rejecting cutting-edge technologies, claiming that these new features will dilute the soul of its bikes. However, in the past few years Harley has changed its tune and started upgrading the Harley “lifestyle.”
There are now computers and all sorts of tech helping to keep your Harley-Davidson motorcycle in tune. But whenever something goes wrong with your new Harley, you must take it to a shop where a trained tech gets paid lots of money to look at a computer screen and tell you what’s wrong. Aftermarket parts manufacturer Vance & Hines is trying to change that.
Vance & Hines has created a black box for your Harley. This device directly links to your motorcycle’s computer, and broadcasts what it finds on Bluetooth. That means you can use an app to see your motorcycle’s performance data and error codes on your smartphone. This device will also allow you to edit those engine settings, which means you can tune your motorcycle from your phone!
Do you think this new tech will encourage a new generation of do-it-yourselfers? Do you think this could make your Harley even better? Head over to our Facebook and Twitter to tell us what you think, and stick with the attorneys that ride by reading our blog.
