Going to Sturgis 2018? Here Are Some Riding Roads for You to Check Out!

It’s that time of year again! Sturgis has begun and that means riders from all over the country are congregating on a tiny town in the Black Hills for the largest motorcycle rally in the world. However, the rally isn’t the only thing to do when you go to visit Sturgis. Here is a list of a few highways to ride while you’re out enjoying the comradery.

The Riding Roads of Sturgis 2018

Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway – This ride takes you down a section of highway named after Governor Peter Norbeck. It is one of the most famous rides in all of Sturgis and will give you a taste of many of the other riding routes in the area. This 66-mile route will introduce you to all the flavors of riding in South Dakota, including Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore. The loop includes US 16A, SD 36, SD 87 and SD 244. It’s a great way to get a taste of everything.

Wildlife Loop Road – This 18-mile ride will take you into the heart of Custer State Park, giving you the chance to view both vistas and wildlife. Depending on the time of day that you ride through, you could get to see bison, prairie dogs, coyote, deer, antelope or elk. And if you miss seeing your favorite animal the first time through, you have the perfect excuse to ride through a few more times. Just remember to take it slow and stop off at the visitor center to maximize the experience.

Needles Highway – It can get narrow at points, and it is mostly visited by the likes of tourists, but the Needles Highway has got some seriously beautiful sites. The spires of red granite that litter this ride are the highway’s namesake. It also features two one lane tunnels and you’ll have to go through the Custer State Park entrance to get there. However, the toll is a small price to pay to see this natural beauty.
