Okay, we all know that riding a motorcycle can be dangerous, but this takes it to a whole new level. People are setting booby traps for motorcyclists, and they can be fatal. Here’s what you need to know to keep from becoming a victim of this crime.
It’s a Trap! But the AMA Wants You to Know About It
There are plenty of off-road trails that are used by hikers, bikers, ATV riders, and motorcyclists. Getting out and enjoying these trails in the middle of nature’s splendor is one of the best parts of riding in Colorado. However, some people would rather hurt others than share in the pleasure of mother nature’s beauty.
A cable was strung across state park trails in Massachusetts. Boards with nails were found on trails in New Hampshire. In Idaho, someone found barbed wire strung out four feet above the ground! These kinds of traps have shocked and scared many motorcyclists. So the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) has released a bulletin to ask all riders to keep an eye out.
If you see a suspicious person planting a booby trap on one of your local trails, call the authorities immediately. The Mount Moosilauke ATV Club in Warren, NH is offering a $1,350 reward for information that leads to the capture and conviction of any responsible parties in its area. The New England Trail Riders Association is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest in Massachusetts.
Our state is one of the best states for outdoors activities like trail riding, and we’ve seen this problem before. Keep an eye out, and keep your fellow riders safe.
