New Jersey Representative Bill Pascrell has put forth a new bill that will hopefully promote traumatic brain injury research by creating a national record keeping system. The bill, the National Traumatic Brain Injury Research and Treatment Improvement Act of 2014, will require the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to direct the development of the recording keeping system which will collect data on the causes of circumstances of every traumatic brain injury in the US.
Hopefully, the bill will result in the kind of data set that can be used for nationwide longitudinal studies that will improve brain injury treatment long-term. Due to the nature of traumatic brain injuries, treatment is often life-long and extremely costly.
“Dealing with the unexpected hardships brought on by a traumatic brain injury takes a tremendous toll on millions of victims and their families each year,” said Pascrell. “We need to ensure the individuals that sustain these devastating injuries have every resource available to them.”
