One Killed And One Injured In Houston Motorcycle Accident

A motorist in Houston, Texas caused two brothers, both riding motorcycles, to crash around 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 9. The motorist was driving ahead of the two motorcyclists southbound on the Interstate 45 feeder road near the intersection with FM 1960 when he switched lanes into the closed High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane. Police investigating the accident believe that the driver was unfamiliar with Houston’s HOV lane schedule. When the motorist realized that he was about to drive into a barricade, he swerved back onto the feeder into the motorcyclists’ path.

The two brothers engaged in evasive maneuvering to avoid the motorist but ended up in the HOV lane facing the barricade. The first motorcyclist collided with the barricade. According to an eyewitness, the “[r]ed motorcycle behind him didn’t have time to stop, ran into him [and] ran over him.” The onlooker then “ran across the freeway and was attending to the guy who was on the black motorcycle. He wasn’t conscious, wasn’t breathing.” The Life Flight helicopter arrived to escort the surviving motorcyclist to a nearby hospital.
