Paralyzed Man Hand Cycles 1500 Miles

Christmas movies usually have a scene where the dad falls off the roof while putting up lights, and it tends to draw a laugh. The reality of the situation, though, is that any fall can cause serious injuries, especially from a roof.

One Colorado man had just such an accident in 1987, and it paralyzed him from the chest down. Rich Dixon said he spent the next ten years in a very dark place, angry at the world and everyone else for going on with their lives.

Hand cycling brought him out of the darkness.

Dixon is now hand cycling an inspiring 1500 miles along the Mississippi river to accomplish a dream of his held for almost 10 years, and to show that when life knocks you down, you do not have to stay down.

Besides living out a dream and inspiring others, Dixon’s journey is also raising funds for disaster relief by partnering with a group called Convoy of Hope.

Spinal injuries can be so debilitating that it can be hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel. People like Dixon help show that regardless of circumstances, a person can still achieve dreams and make a difference in the world.

Has someone else’s negligence led to your spinal injury, and do you need to take legal action to cover the costs of treatment?
