Colorado Woman Murdered By Her Husband

On the way home to Paonia, Colorado, from a court proceeding in Delta, Melinda Tackett Yager told her friend Corrie Stroud that Yager’s estranged husband was going to kill her. Later that day, her prediction came true.

“Melinda said, ‘I just want you to know, he’s going to kill me,’” Stroud said. “And I said, ‘Don’t you ever say anything like that.’ And she said, ‘I just want to tell you, if you ever find my body, he killed me.’”

The prophetic words rang true as Yager’s body was discovered near the railroad tracks in Paonia on January 7 of last year. According to authorities, her throat had been slashed so viciously that her spinal cord was nicked.

The two women had been in court earlier in the day in Delta seeking a restraining order against Nathan Yager.

Police said that Nathan called his parents and confessed to killing his wife. He had come to the house and saw that his belongings were gone, and that she was preparing to move to another house in town. He snapped.

On May 16, 2011, Nathan pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the charge of murder. He is going through a mental health evaluation, and will be retried on May 15, 2012.
