Determined To Fight For His Injured Clients
Phil first earned his chops as a skilled courtroom competitor when he was an assistant district attorney with the Galveston County District Attorney’s office. While there, he participated in more than 50 jury trials. After three years of criminal work in Texas, Phil began civil litigation practice in Colorado. He initially represented developers and builders, and he then physicians and hospitals in negligence claims. Phil spent many years representing defendants — and then he knew he had to change. He could no longer oppose those who had been injured.
He found Metier Law Firm in 2008. Since then, he has utilized those adept trial skills to help people who have been injured by others’ negligent acts. Switching sides, Phil said, was “the best decision I ever made.”
Why Work With Phil As Your Personal Injury Attorney?
With his unique experience first as a defense lawyer, Phil has an unparalleled understanding of what it takes to win and how to help his clients. He is a dedicated, tough trial lawyer and he gets his passion, determination, and drive from his clients: he’s continually amazed at the strength of his clients during difficult times. As his clients persevere against great odds, Phil is inspired to fight for them and their families both in and out of the courtroom. He works diligently to find solutions that fit their individual needs both now and in the future.
Phil graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in political science. He then received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law (consistently one of the top 15 law schools in the country). Phil is a member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, Colorado Bar Association (medical malpractice and auto litigation sections), Texas Bar Association, Denver Bar Association, and American Association of Justice (nursing home section).
As a member of the Board of Directors for The Chanda Plan Foundation, Phil supports integrative therapies for people with disabilities. He serves as the president of his homeowners association. He was the co-leader of the continuing education sessions for nurses at the University of Colorado, Risk Management Department and he worked with Dr. Richard Martinez to present ethics models to students finishing their surgery rotations.
A trusted personal injury attorney in his field, Phil is peer rated by Martindale Hubbell as Distinguished (BV Rating) for his ethics and legal abilities.
Outside of the courtroom, Phil spends time with his wife and three sons outdoors. He enjoys playing tennis, hiking, and sailing. Phil has fun riding his Triumph America motorcycle in the mountains of Colorado and he is working hard to learn to play his guitar. He is also a volunteer coach for the Fort Collins Soccer Club.
