On November 5, The Gazette reported that a high-speed police pursuit resulted in a car accident and serious injuries. The accident happened around 3:18 p.m. on November 4 at the intersection of North Circle Drive and North Union Boulevard in Colorado Springs.
According to CBS 11 in Colorado Springs, 24-year-old Antonio Reddell was speeding and weaving through traffic on Circle Drive leading up to the accident. He was driving a Honda Civic and was clocked traveling 59 mph in a 35 mph zone. A motorcycle patrol officer attempted to pursue the Honda, but was reportedly unsuccessful.
The Honda ran a red light at the North Union Boulevard intersection, colliding with an Acura that had the right-of-way, according to police. After striking the Acura, the Honda spun into another collision with a Chevy 2500 pickup truck that was stopped at the red light on Fillmore Street and Union Boulevard. Reddell was the only person reported to have been injured in the accident. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Once on the scene, Colorado Springs police ran the plates of the Honda and discovered that it had been reported stolen. Police also found a gun on Reddell when they searched him. Reddell is facing several charges, including suspicion of driving while license is cancelled or denied, identity theft, possession of a handgun by a previous offender and felony theft.
“There wasn’t anyone at fault in this except for the gentleman in the Honda, and it’s scary to think everybody else was doing what they were supposed to have been doing and it could have been much worse,” a witness to the accident told CBS 11.
While you cannot control the actions of other drivers, when you share the road with them, their actions can have consequences that negatively affect you. However, just as you cannot control the actions of other drivers, you should not be held responsible for an accident caused by another driver’s negligence.
