Police Chase Results in Injured Civilian

A Kansas City police officer and a woman both suffered injuries when their cars collided while the police chased another vehicle.

The auto accident occurred at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and 38th Street about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 2. Witness reported seeing the police chasing a white Chevrolet pickup speeding east on 38th Street. The woman was traveling northbound on Chestnut Avenue when the patrol car hit her. The front panel on the driver’s side of the woman’s vehicle suffered extensive damage and the force of the collision pushed her car almost 200 feet east on 38th Street.

The police car, which came to rest at the corner, had extensive front-end damage.

Witness on the scene helped the woman from her car and reported that she was dazed and bleeding from several cuts to her head. An officer in the police car suffered an wound to his arm. Both the officer and the woman were taken to hospitals. The other officer in the car was taken to the hospital later.

The white pickup truck was not affected by the collision and left the area. It was later found abandoned in the 2900 block of East 35th Street. The chase started when officers witnessed the truck run a stop sign at 35th Street and Brooklyn Avenue. The officers were attempting to catch up to the truck when the collision occurred.
