Black materials attract heat. Since many riders favor dark colors on their bike and person, this can create some problems in the summertime. Here are a few ways that you can beat the heat while still enjoying the fresh air on your bike.
- Stay hydrated. Always bring plenty of water with you on the road. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, and it only takes a brief lapse in focus to cause a motorcycle accident. A quick splash of water to the face or a chilled bandana around your neck can help rejuvenate your attention.
- Plan ahead. If you know the day beforehand that you will be going on a long ride, stick your water bottle in the freezer overnight. A frozen bottle of ice will melt soon enough in the hot sun, and it will stay refreshing longer.
- Choose the right clothes. Fabrics like cotton absorb and retain sweat like sponges. Instead, consider clothing made of materials like spandex, lycra or UnderArmor-type material that allows sweat to evaporate.
- Stick to water. Sugary and caffeinated drinks will only dehydrate you. Water is the best fluid to keep on hand on the road.
For many, riding is the highlight of the summer, if not the year. Keep a clear head and stay focused on the road. If a distracted driver injures you on the road, give us a call. At no charge, we can help you figure out what to do next.
