Teen Driver Kills Colorado Motorcyclist

It is well known that alcohol impairs a driver’s ability to accurately gauge distances, approximate the speed of other vehicles and control a vehicle. Alcohol’s impairment of driving ability is further augmented when the driver is young and lacks experience behind the wheel. Quite recently, a 16-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a motorcyclist, according to 9 News Colorado.

The driver of a white Dodge Neon was accompanied by four other teenage passengers, which is against the law in Colorado. A teenager cannot drive passengers under the age of 21 without the added presence of a parent or adult for the first six months of driving with a license. Furthermore, during the second six months, a young driver is only allowed to carry one passenger under the age of 21. However, the driver in question only had a learner’s permit, not even a license.

The motorist was heading south on Highway 2, allegedly under the influence of alcohol and at a high speed when she lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic. A 52-year-old motorcyclist, headed north on Highway 2 on a Yamaha, collided with the car full of teens head on. The motorcyclist died upon impact and three of the teenagers in the car suffered serious injuries. Emergency crews soon arrived, tended to the wounded and escorted the victims to the hospital.

I Was Injured In A Motorcycle Accident Caused By A Drunk Driver, I Need An Attorney

If you or a loved one has been injured in a motorcycle accident caused by a negligent or intoxicated driver, seek out the assistance of an experienced motorcycle accident attorney. The odds are the liable party’s insurance provider will offer you a settlement, but do not sign anything without first reviewing with an attorney the true cost of your medical bills, subsequent recovery and associated damages. By having a lawyer negotiate a settlement, you can recover the full compensation that you need so that your accident does not turn into a financial nightmare.
