Tire Blowout Causes Motorcycle Crash on I-70

Two Colorado natives were rushed to the hospital with minor injuries after a motorcycle crash on May 19.

According to the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, the police started receiving calls around 2:30 p.m. that Sunday, reporting that a man and woman had been injured in a motorcycle accident on eastbound I-70, about four miles west of Russell.

David and Melody King of Berthoud, Colorado were driving a 1995 Harley Davidson near mile marker 180 when the rear tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control. Both the rider and passenger were wearing helmets at the time.

When a vehicle part fails, it can be difficult to establish liability. If the motorcycle had a defective tire, the rider might have a product liability claim against the seller or manufacturer.

If the part failed for another reason, like hitting a pothole or debris in the road, the government can be found liable for the accident. Truckers can also be to blame by creating hazardous road conditions when failing to secure their loads properly.
