Flatbed Truck Driver Rear-Ends CDOT Vehicle

The driver of a flatbed truck rear-ended a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) truck on May 20, causing serious injuries.

According to reports, the crash happened in Commerce City at 4:30 a.m., near the York exit on Interstate 270.

The CDOT truck was moving slowly, repairing potholes on the highway when the flatbed truck rear-ended it at about 45 mph. The flatbed truck was heavily damaged.

The driver of the flatbed truck was seriously injured and transported to the hospital. At this time, investigators consider him to be at fault for the accident.

The driver of the CDOT truck was examined at the scene, but was not transported to the hospital.

Emergency crews diverted traffic off at the Vasquez Boulevard exit after closing the westbound lanes of traffic, causing big delays during the Tuesday morning commute.

What to Do After a Tractor-Trailer Accident

If you are involved in a trucking accident, there are a few things you can do to strengthen your case:

  • Preserve data from high-tech devices: Truckers have their own version of a plane’s “black box,” which gathers information about how fast the truck was going, how long the driver had been on the road, and other helpful information.  On-board computers and GPS systems can also save important data.
  • Contact government agencies: Every truck involved in an accident must be examined by a federal truck inspector before it is removed from the scene. This report will have the condition of all mechanical parts on the truck and trailer, including any faulty ones. This is not part of the police report. In order to have access, you have to obtain the report from the proper government agency.

Trucking accidents can cause extensive damage to your property and physical well-being. Oftentimes trucking companies will have big insurance lawyers who will try to make you liable for the accident, or keep you from receiving fair compensation. To win a trucking case, you need an attorney on your side who knows how to deal with big insurance companies. Call Metier Law Firm today. We are ready to fight for you.
