Police are still investigating a crash that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man who drove the wrong way on an interstate.
According to reports, Mathou Valenciano was driving north in the southbound lanes of I-25, about three miles south of Fountain. He crashed into a FedEx semi truck. Debris littered the highway, and Valenciano was declared dead at the scene. Steven Hall, the FedEx truck driver, did not sustain injuries. Police have not charged him with any crime, saying that he did what he could to avoid the fatal truck accident.
Wrong Way Driving
We still do not know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident or Valenciano’s decision to drive in the wrong direction. Some people have commented on news websites about the confusing entrance ramps for this interstate.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), between 300 and 400 people die every year because someone drove the wrong way.
